"Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair…Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess."
a discussion we had in WLC concerning women.
this hurts my heart because this is the same sentiment expressed my most black men i know and it makes black girls feel like shit absolute shit
I have so many thoughts right now.
I want this video to be a testament for every black man, and non black poc out there, and even to some black women as well too, when they question is the hatred of Black Women really extreme, and damaging. When folks question me about anti-blackness and misogynoir and the fact that Black Women are globally hated more than anyone else and they call me a liar, look at this fucking video.
The amount of people who find it a problem to consider Black Women beautiful, to think it’s blasphemy to name Black Women first is the reason why Black Girls Rock exist. It’s the reason why Black Women have to say we are the best in the world, it’s because no one else will be our cheerleaders unless we do it ourselves. No one gets shitted on like a Black Woman, especially if you’re a Black Transwoman.
This is why Black Women and Black Girl Empowerment needs to always be about us, first, instead of “What about ALL women.” Well all women aren’t getting shitted on globally, and aren’t being placed at the bottom of the human scale. I have so much anger and disgust right now. Black Women I swear it’s like we’re the most unloved, and the most hated. It’s not enough to just be found unappealing but we have to be hated too. It has to be instilled in us, how much we’re hated, and how much we need to know, just how appalling everyone else finds us. Black Women over everything. Black Women Supremacy for always and forever, because no one else will.

Adrianne Haslet-Davis dances again for the first time since the Boston terrorist attack last year.
When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon finish line, Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost the lower half of her left leg in the explosion. She’s a ballroom dance teacher, and she assumed she would never dance again. With most prosthetics, she wouldn’t.
But Hugh Herr, of the MIT Media Lab, wanted to find a way to help her. He created a bionic limb specifically for dancers, studying the way they move and adapting the limb to fit their motion. (He explains how he did it here.)
At TED2014, Adrianne danced for the first time since the attack, wearing the bionic limb that Hugh created for her.
Hugh says, “It was 3.5 seconds between the bomb blasts in the Boston terrorist attack. In 3.5 seconds, the criminals and cowards took Adrianne off the dance floor. In 200 days, we put her back. We will not be intimidated, brought down, diminished, conquered or stopped by acts of violence.”
Amen to that, Hugh.
